Root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) removes infected or damaged tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and disinfects the area, and seals it to prevent reinfection.
By saving your natural tooth, root canal treatment helps preserve your natural bite, appearance, and long-term dental health.
Signs You May Need Root Canal Therapy:
If you experience any of these symptoms, speak to your dentist or contact Lodge Dental for an expert assessment with Dr Cameron Currie.
In some cases, a tooth may continue to cause problems even after previous root canal treatment. At Lodge Dental, we can offer advanced procedures to help save these teeth whenever possible:
Root Canal Retreatment
If a previous root canal has not completely healed or has developed new infection, retreatment involves carefully reopening the tooth, removing any old filling materials, thoroughly disinfecting the root canals, and sealing them again to encourage healing.
Apical Surgery (Apicectomy)
In certain cases where retreatment alone may not be sufficient, apical surgery (known as an apicectomy) may be recommended. This minor surgical procedure involves removing the tip of the tooth’s root and any surrounding infected tissue through a small incision near the gum.
Both retreatment and apical surgery are routine procedures carried out under local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout.
If your dentist has recommended root canal treatment, we welcome referrals at Lodge Dental. We collaborate closely with your dentist to provide specialist care tailored to your needs.
Please ask your dentist to refer you to Dr Cameron Currie — or contact our team directly to discuss your treatment options.

This means the total cost of your treatment after 24 months would be £643.98. If you were take out the loan today, you’d pay the first £26.89 upfront, and then 23 payments of £26.83 each month, starting 18 Jul, and ending in May 2027. *This can’t be more than your treatment cost
A root canal (endodontic) treatment removes the infected or inflamed pulp (the tooth's soft tissue) and seals the canals to preserve your natural tooth
You may need treatment if you have a deep cavity, tooth fracture, repeated dental procedures, or trauma that has led to pulp inflammation or infection. Left untreated, infection can lead to abscesses and bone damage
No—it’s performed under local anaesthetic. Thanks to modern techniques and pain management, most patients report minimal discomfort. In fact, removing the infection actually relieves pain
Typically, a root canal takes 60–90 minutes, often completed in a single appointment. More complex cases may require a follow-up visit
No. Only the pulp inside the roots is removed—the tooth's actual roots are preserved and sealed
Usually on molars or teeth with extensive decay. A crown provides structural support and protection for the treated tooth .
Mild tenderness is common for a few days. Most people resume normal activities the same day. Over-the-counter pain relief is usually enough .
Maintain good oral hygiene—brush twice daily, floss, and attend regular dental check-ups. A crowned, root-treated tooth can last as long as your natural teeth
