Need a dentist? Register now!

Going to the dentist is not everyone's idea of fun, but when you decide to make an appointment you don't want to be told that there is a 6 month waiting list or that the dental practice isn't taking any new patients. This is why it is advisable to register with a dentist as soon as possible when you settle somewhere new.

NHS or private?

Finding a GP is fairly easy in the UK, but finding an NHS dentist can be trickier. At Lodge Dental our Abergavenny and New Inn practices are private, but our fees are set at very reasonable prices. NHS dentists are slightly cheaper, however there is generally a waiting list – in some areas it can be tricky just to register to become a patient and then you cannot always get an appointment swiftly. You may have been lucky and found the perfect practice but if not, then we have some gentle dentists who will be pleased to assist with your oral health!

If you have always lived in the same place, then you may have a family dentist already, but if you have moved recently or want to change dental practice, it is advisable to find a dentist and register with them as soon as possible. This way you can become a patient of the Practice and get treatment when required, instead of leaving it to when you are in pain or in an emergency.

Finding a good dentist

To find a dentist, you can check with Denplan or NHS Wales; both registries are straightforward and easy to use. You may also use the General Dental Council website to ensure the Dentist is registered.

The first appointment

Once you have found a dental practice, registered and booked an appointment, your dentist will want to get to know you and find out about your medical history and dental needs. This initial appointment will consist of a thorough Dental examination including all necessary X-rays, Oral Cancer Screening and Oral Hygiene advice. It will also give you the opportunity to discuss anything you are not happy about with your teeth and discuss the options, such as teeth whitening, dental implants or cosmetic dentistry, six-month smiles, or even facial aesthetics such as BOTOX or Dermal Fillers.

Taking care of your teeth regularly will assist with your oral hygiene. We advise a dental check-up every 6 to 12 months and at least one Hygienist appointment per year. If you live near Abergavenny or New Inn and have not registered with a dentist, do it now!
